For anyone who hasn’t heard about it, TN Sr. Olympics is basically what it sounds like – an Olympic-style competition for those much older than your typical athletes. The State Finals kicked off on June 21st and the participants, who had to qualify in their respective regions from all across the state, are competing in many dozens of events that include sprinting, high jumping, basketball, and much more. Plenty of the track and field competitors are in their 70’s and some are well into their 90’s. The phrase “young at heart” is used often, but it’s absolutely deserving for these men and women. As a long-time supporter of Sr. Olympics, I felt the “Against the Tide” video would be a great place to feature some of these athletes. They very much reflect the message of the song – in a nutshell, “that our age and other labels do not define us – we are only defined by what we choose to do and who we choose to be.”
