Justin’s recently released music video for his song “Back Where I Belong” was inspired by a combination of real stories of athletes trying to overcome potential sports career-ending injuries. Some of these were about basketball players, which was the focus of the video, but the primary inspiration in many ways was Justin’s own roller coaster story of his college football experience at the University of Memphis. The story is featured in the newest episode of “Toe Jam”, Justin’s behind-the-music video series (see the link below).
“This story,” said Justin, “is one that I’ve really only shared with a small number of people before, especially any of the details. It was certainly a major basis for the song because it sort of represented a perfect example of how things in your life can shift quickly – how sometimes you can feel like you’ve scaled a mountain and then, right as you’re celebrating, you lose your balance and tumble off that same mountain. The song and video are very much about that – we all have our up’s and down’s in life, whether that’s in our careers, our relationships, the goals that we are chasing – but by holding onto hope during the darker times we always have a chance to turn things around.”
